Young Women's Leadership Network
An affiliate of the Young Women's Leadership Network (YWLN), Wilmington's GLOW follows the successful model of The Young Women's Leadership Schools (TYWLS). In 1996, Ann and Andrew Tisch partnered with the New York City Board of Education to open TYWLS of East Harlem - the first public all-girls school to open in the United States in 30 years. YWLN now has a network of five high-performing TYWLS schools in New York City, serving more than 2,200 students. The success of TYWLS has inspired the opening of dozens of single-sex schools nationwide, including 11 affiliates in Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New York, and Texas. GLOW is the first affiliate school in North Carolina, and the first single-gender charter school in NC. Together, these schools offer a single-gender educational environment for predominantly low-income girls who will be the first in their families to attend college.
